Day 1 - Kickoff

Woke up feeling a little groggy and under the weather this morning....

Probably since I drank my face off on Saturday evening and spent Sunday in a tired haze. I didn't indulge in any Super Bowl festivities, instead, I caught a nap and woke up to my wife meal prepping our lunch for today.

Today is exciting though! I woke up to an awesome breakfast of yogurt + berries + chia seeds beautifully prepared by my wife. Paired with an espresso and glass of water. I typically don't eat breakfast but apparently, that's something missing from my diet.

I'm thankful that for all of January I already went super hard. I was going to 4-5 classes a week with some basketball in there as well. I'm already starting to see some results and am so happy with the direction of my fitness goals. Waking up sore is an everyday thing I'm already used to. So the 8 week challenge for me is about continuing my consistent training + eating right.

I guess as a first post, it'd be good to note some goals of mine for this challenge:

  • Current weight: 165lbs
  • Goal weight: 170 lbs
  • Current body fat: 13.8%
  • Goal body fat: 9% (apparently your abs show if it's under 10% lol)
  • I want to be able to dunk
  • Put on some muscle mass
  • Have a better relationship with food (I uber eats way too much)

Overall I'm feeling great about my fitness and excited about my goals. The next few weeks will definitely be difficult. I love ordering a pizza or some popeye's to watch the Raptors game.

One thing about this challenge is the grocery shopping. We had a monster of a list to purchase yesterday. We went to Fiesta Farms at around 2pm but I personally didn't consider how hard it would be to get everything on our list. The challenge includes a meal plan for every meal and snack over the 8 weeks.... So there's quite a bit to do.

For next week, I definitely have to start prepping on Thursday evening. Take a look at next week's recipes and see how I need to make adjustments so I don't eat seafood. Also, would like to try and go first thing on Sunday to beat the rush.

One more thing, I want to start training my mind a bit more. I'm usually listening to 2-3 podcasts a day. I'm hoping to switch that up with some reading. I want to read at least 1 book a month. My dad was an avid reader and was always ready for any topic of conversation. I hope I can get into the literary world a bit because I feel really uneducated when the topics of books come up in conversation.

Anyways, I think that's good for day 1. Will try and update this every morning....
